Sequim sits in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains. Storms coming off the Pacific dump their water on the peaks and arrive here wrung out — which leaves this valley dry, bright, and cool at night while the rest of western Washington is under cloud. It is the same weather logic that made Provence famous for lavender: long sun, low water, cold nights. Lavender answers that kind of season by putting its energy into aromatic oil instead of leaf. Squeeze it
Crushing the buds is what releases the scent. A sachet that has gone quiet is not finished — it just needs a squeeze.

We grow two very different lavenders, and picking the wrong one is the most common lavender mistake there is. Here is the short version.
English lavender
Royal Velvet

Almost nobody who buys one buys one. Drawer, car, suitcase.
Scale and distance. Most lavender product is blended from bulk oil bought on a commodity market, filled in the thousands. Ours is distilled from our own rows in a copper still on the property and bottled in runs small enough to hand-label in an afternoon. When a batch is gone it is gone until the next harvest.
