Storms coming off the Pacific dump their water on the peaks and arrive here wrung out — which leaves this valley dry, bright, and cool at night while the rest of western Washington is under cloud. It is the same weather logic that made Provence famous for lavender: long sun, low water, cold nights. Lavender answers that kind of season by putting its energy into aromatic oil instead of leaf. We grow two very different lavenders, and picking the wrong one is the most common lavender mistake there is. Here is the short version.
English lavender
