Storms coming off the Pacific dump their water on the peaks and arrive here wrung out — which leaves this valley dry, bright, and cool at night while the rest of western Washington is under cloud. It is the same weather logic that made Provence famous for lavender: long sun, low water, cold nights. Lavender answers that kind of season by putting its energy into aromatic oil instead of leaf. Every ingredient, and why it is there
Three ingredients and a lid.
100% organic lavender essential oil
Real oil, not fragrance oil. It is why the scent reads dry and floral rather than sugary.
Soy wax
Clean-burning, lower melt point, and it releases scent at a gentler temperature than paraffin.
Multi-wick glass jar
Several wicks so the pool reaches the glass — the only way to avoid tunnelling.
Bamboo lid
Keeps the dust off and holds the scent in between burns.
How to use it
The ritual
Small things, done properly. This is how we use it on the farm.

The first burn matters
Two to three hours the first time, until the melt pool reaches the glass. Soy remembers its first burn — cut it short and it will tunnel forever.

Trim the wicks
To about a quarter inch before every light. This is the whole secret to a candle that does not smoke.

Four hours max
Then let it rest. Longer burns overheat the jar and burn the scent off.

Lid on after
Once it is fully cool, not before.

We grow two very different lavenders, and picking the wrong one is the most common lavender mistake there is. Here is the short version.

Answered before you have to ask
Organic lavender essential oil. Fragrance oil throws harder and cheaper; essential oil smells like the actual plant, which is the entire reason we are doing this.
It depends on how you treat it — trim the wicks, keep sessions under four hours, and a multi-wick soy jar goes a long way.
Scale and distance. Most lavender product is blended from bulk oil bought on a commodity market, filled in the thousands. Ours is distilled from our own rows in a copper still on the property and bottled in runs small enough to hand-label in an afternoon. When a batch is gone it is gone until the next harvest.
