Sequim sits in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains. Storms coming off the Pacific dump their water on the peaks and arrive here wrung out — which leaves this valley dry, bright, and cool at night while the rest of western Washington is under cloud. It is the same weather logic that made Provence famous for lavender: long sun, low water, cold nights. Lavender answers that kind of season by putting its energy into aromatic oil instead of leaf. Warm it
Three to five drops into the palm, rub hands together for five seconds.

Start at the feet and work toward the heart — it is the order every massage therapist uses, and it is not arbitrary.

On skin still slightly damp. The oil traps the water instead of replacing it.

We grow two very different lavenders, and picking the wrong one is the most common lavender mistake there is. Here is the short version.
English lavender

Answered before you have to ask
Give it a few minutes to absorb before you get into bed, and you will not have a problem. It is a body oil, so the usual body-oil manners apply.
Oil for a slow, quiet ritual and for dry skin. Lotion for longer massage work where you want more glide and a completely non-greasy finish.
Scale and distance. Most lavender product is blended from bulk oil bought on a commodity market, filled in the thousands. Ours is distilled from our own rows in a copper still on the property and bottled in runs small enough to hand-label in an afternoon. When a batch is gone it is gone until the next harvest.
